With millions of websites competing for attention in the digital landscape, search engine optimization (SEO) plays a huge role in driving organic traffic to your website.
New to SEO? Let’s break it down:
Search Engine Optimization (SEO) is the practice of optimizing your website to improve its visibility and ranking in search engine results pages (SERPs). By aligning your website’s content and structure with search engine algorithms, you can attract traffic, increase visibility, and ultimately strengthen your presence online.
There’s no SEO without keywords. Identifying the words or phrases users are likely to use when searching for information related to your website is KEY. Google Keyword Planner and SEMrush are two of the tools that have helped me. Check them out!
Now, there are countless things that can be optimized, so let’s start with tangible action items you can start focusing on, On-Page Optimization being one of them. OPO basically means optimizing elements on your website to improve search engine visibility.
I recommend blocking an hour on your calendar and auditing your website with your team. Here’s a few key elements to keep in mind when doing so:
- Titles: Create unique, descriptive, and keyword-rich titles for each page.
- Meta Descriptions: These descriptions will ultimately convert google users into website visitors and potential future customers.
- URL Structure: Use clean and readable URLs that include relevant keywords, or how we like to call them inside CEO School, “pretty links”.
I could honestly ramble on about SEO forever but since I know you’re a busy founder just like me, I’ll break this SEO 101 session into multiple parts before I lose you 😉.
PS: Scratch that “I recommend” from the audit. Consider it your homework for the week before I go more in depth into everything SEO.
